Accessibility and Inclusion
Arts-based learning offers a high-quality inclusive approach to teaching that connects with children who face challenges that may negatively affect their education and their readiness to engage with learning. Delight is committed to making every aspect of our work accessible to all, including socioeconomically disadvantaged pupils, those with SEND, children in need and looked-after children, as well as pupils who face other barriers to their learning or well-being.
Performances and Workshops
• Relaxed, interactive performances designed for children, including those with SEND.
• Our professional performances include actors and dancers with a range of ages and ethnicities and living with disabilities, to promote participation and representation for everyone.
• Workshops delivered by specialist artists experienced in supporting children with learning or physical needs.
Programme Resources
• Journals use dyslexia friendly font.
• Writing frames and optional drawing responses.
• A range of scaffolded resources including Visual Wordbanks, created using Widgit Symbols to support vocabulary acquisition.
• Step-by-step ‘How to…’ videos to support neurodivergent learners and children with delayed processing.
• ‘How to…’ videos incorporate British Sign Language for d/Deaf learners.
• ‘How to…’ videos include a wide range of actors, dancers and artists to enable children to ‘see’ themselves.
Through evaluation and close collaboration with our arts partners, teachers and senior leaders, we gather insights to help us refine our programmes to ensure we reach each child whatever their starting point.
Delight partners with a variety of educational settings to reach children with diverse needs, including those in mainstream primary schools, specialist education centres, and schools dedicated to supporting children with learning needs.
We are committed to being an open and inclusive employer. We offer a range of opportunities and contracts to nurture a diverse and inclusive workforce. Our governing board is evolving to provide opportunities for those currently underrepresented and we support our arts partners in ensuring artists reflect the communities we work with.
Please reach out with any queries or suggestions relating to Delight’s accessibility and inclusion practices – we value your input in our ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility and inclusion across our work.
