Delight in Shakespeare

Delight in Shakespeare strengthens children’s learning and life skills and increases their enthusiasm for drama, storytelling and heritage text. The programme stimulates each child’s imagination, challenging them to devise, use Shakespearean language, design sets, and make props and costumes – whilst working towards their own unique Shakespearean performance.

It feels amazing to be performing and it makes me happy to put a smile on peoples faces.

Participating Pupil

Delight in Shakespeare is an intensive arts-based learning programme, delivered by Delight in partnership with Guildford Shakespeare Company (GSC) and primary schools. Over 3 years children in Years 4, 5 and 6 gain an understanding of 3 Shakespearean plays ensuring that they have a strong foundation in Shakespeare before moving onto secondary school.

The opening interactive performance by Guildford Shakespeare Company is watched by all Year 4, 5 and 6 children. The Year 5 children then take part in the full programme, working with professional actors to create their own unique translation of the story to share with family, friends and the local community.

I absolutely loved it when my art teacher said that I was made for the stage!

Impact Measurement

The strength of Delight’s work is down to the positive and collaborative working relationships we have with partner schools. We work closely with teachers throughout the year to collect comprehensive impact measurement results.

Delight in Shakespeare’s data and feedback shows strong improvements in learning and life skills as well as increased confidence, enthusiasm for learning and a growing interest in the arts. The results also demonstrate the positive outcomes achieved for teachers through the programme’s CPD initiatives and programme resources.
